Workshops are a great way to learn new skills, whether to use for a hobby or a tool for work. I offer classes on watercolor painting focusing specifically on portraiture, but lately have opened up still life painting and illustration, as well. Since 2016, I have taught students around Metro Manila and in Cebu City, from beginners to intermediate-level watercolor painters.
A TECHNICAL AND DETAILED APPROACH
The classes I give are technical and detailed, with the methods and techniques taught step-by-step and explained in detail to the students. Fundamental theories and techniques in watercolor painting are taught at the beginning of the lecture, which will then be applied in practice at the second half of the class. The techniques that I teach to the students are the very same techniques I apply when working on my paintings.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM MY CLASSES
In my 4-hour classes, students will learn how to paint using watercolor through applying basic watercolor theories and techniques. Students will learn how to paint effectively under time pressure, while keeping in mind proper application of brush strokes, tonal value and color selection.
AM I TOO OLD TO LEARN WATERCOLOR?
Of course not! I’ve had students before who were already in their 70s, but turned out to be really good watercolor painters. It just comes with proper guidance, discipline and constant practice. And although I support learning watercolor at a very young age, I do have a minimum age requirement of 12 years old for students who wish to join my classes. My classes are usually technical and fast-paced, and students below that age may find it very hard to catch up.
WHAT ARE THE COURSES YOU OFFER?
I offer courses on basic portrait painting, advanced portrait painting, still life painting and birds illustration. I conduct classes to small groups of 8 to large groups of 15 students. I also offer 1-on-1 private classes to a maximum of 6 students. 3-session classes are also available. My classes can be customized based on the students’ needs. After-class consultation is also available and is free to my students. For list of classes, go here.
WHAT MATERIALS DO YOU USE FOR YOUR WORKSHOPS?
I use good quality, premium art materials for my classes. I have partnered up with various brands for my classes such as Sennelier, Raphael, Faber-Castell, Daniel Smith and Canson, to name a few.
