I AM A VISUAL ARTIST, AN ILLUSTRATOR AND AN ART INSTRUCTOR.
Stephanie Alvarez was born in 1989 in the Philippines. She graduated from the University of Santo Tomas with a degree in Architecture. Although she never took any formal art lessons, she dedicated her free time to self-study since she was five, inspired by the Japanese cartoons she grew up watching. At present a licensed architect, she left her day job to currently pursue a career in art.
Steph’s portraits and illustrations evoke surreal, ethereal impressions that capture the personality and emotions of her subjects. What words can’t describe, her works do the telling through imagery, carrying subdued overtones told by a colorful palette. Her works carry themes that usually stem from daily anxieties and experiences, struggles with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome), human preferences and faith, spiritual morality and mortal desires, with the subjects often portraying these emotions through a lively and vivid representation of the eyes. Her usual subject is the female face and form, with various incorporated elements serving as metaphors. Her usual tools of trade are watercolor, ink, graphite and gold acrylic paint, with watercolor being her main medium. When she is not working on commissions and personal paintings, she conducts classes on watercolor painting. She has conducted workshops around Metro Manila and in Cebu City, to date.
